White House press secretary Jen Psaki, who is easily one of the most unskilled people to hold that position in modern American history, found herself in the middle of a firestorm on Monday as she faced increasingly tough questions about President Joe Biden’s crisis on the southern U.S. border.
According to the Post Millenial, Psaki was hoping to talk about the Biden administration’s “American Rescue Plan,” the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package that does very little for actual COVID-related issues and instead, silences any criticism from most Americans with a $1,400 stimulus check.
But reporters at the White House on Monday made clear that they’re much more interested in what’s happening on the border, especially in the wake of disturbing pictures released earlier that showed very obvious overcrowding and deteriorating conditions in facilities that are currently housing unaccompanied illegal migrant children and teens.
“In the spirit of transparency to build public trust,” asked a reporter, “when will reporters be allowed into the border detention centers for migrants?”
Psaki dodged the question quickly, but ironically told the room that the Biden administration is still committed to their campaign promise of being “transparent.”

Shockingly, an NBC News reporter hit the press secretary with the $64,000 question, asking that after the administration saw the pictures that were released showing conditions at the holding facilities, is it not a crisis?
“Children presenting at our border who are fleeing violence, who are fleeing prosecution, who are fleeing terrible situations, is not a crisis,” Psaki replied.
“These photos show what we’ve long been saying,” Psaki said, in what felt to many like a jab at the Trump administration, adding that the facilities aren’t made to hold children. Obviously that statement was yet another dodge and part of the current “blame Trump for all bad things” narrative that the White House is sticking to.
But even mainstream media reporters don’t seem to buy that excuse like they once did.
Easily the most impactful question of the entire briefing was when a reporter asked Pskai how it was possible that National Guard troops were forced to sleep in cold, concrete parking garages while eating contaminated food, while the Biden administration is set to drop some $90 million to put illegal immigrants into hotel rooms.
REPORTER: Why did National Guard troops in DC sleep in a parking garage & eat contaminated food but illegal immigrants caught at the border are being put in hotel rooms?

Of course, Psaki couldn’t answer the question and only said that Biden made a call to the National Guard command staff after learning about the conditions on the ground in Washington D.C., which was probably not only false, but a poor, lazy answer to an otherwise critical question.
This is only the start, as Biden had been in the White House for barely two months. I can’t even begin to imagine what this border crisis will look like over the course of the year and beyond.
