Reporter Jack Posobiec tweeted: “Early information from a national security agency suggests Boulder shooter planned to target the Trump rally in Colorado Springs, Feb 2020 but decided to wait until the next one on March 13 in Denver, but it was canceled due to COVID, per WH official.”
Most gun control nuts saw the first image of the terrorist being arrested and assumed that it was an AR-15. The reality is the AR 5.56 pistol is just that, a pistol. It’s too long to conceal like a regular pistol but short enough to not really be a rifle either.
To a 2A defender, the distinctions between the two firearms are obvious. An untrained eye would not likely notice that the AR pistol has a barrel that is about 6 inches shorter than the standard AR rifle. The pistol is lighter than the rifle version and doesn’t have a stock like a rifle.

Gun manufacturers created the arm brace for the pistol version on their ARs to accommodate the sport shooter that wanted a pistol that fired a rifle cartridge. The .223/5.56 caliber is popular because it used to be cheaper to use for those that went through thousands of costly rounds. However, with everything happening and a current ammo shortage, nothing is cheap anymore.
As with all infringements on our 2A, it was brought on by criminals that didn’t want to follow the law. In the 1930s, hooch runners loved to carry short-barrelled rifles during the prohibition days to fight against rivals and the federal government. The government loves to regulate even if the regulation infringes on the rights of lawful Americans.
The brace is designed to “brace” the forearm’s impact, not the shoulder like the rifle. It is illegal to shoot an AR pistol from the shoulder as that would no longer classify the firearm as a pistol but rather a short barrel rifle. If the shooter used it as a rifle with the “brace” snug in the shoulder like a stock, then the shooter not using a handgun.
I’ve had the pleasure of competing in an AR pistol shoot. It’s light and easy to use. It’s a great firearm for women.
