McConnell Weighs In On Massive Infrastructure Bill After Biden Called Him To Talk About It

In the wake of passing a staggering $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package known as the “American Rescue Plan,” the Biden administration and top Democratic leaders in Congress apparently want to piggyback on that momentum by passing another ridiculously expensive bill — this time calling it an “infrastructure” bill.

According to the Washington Examiner, multiple reports of what the bill could look like — along with a pricetag of $2 – $4 trillion — have emerged in recent days. But given the enormity of such an undertaking, not to mention the deficit-crippling cost and likely tax hike, support for the bill from the Republican side of the aisle is essentially non-existant.

Reportedly, Biden even went as far as phoning Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, presumably to get a read on where he was on support for the proposed infrastructure bill. Before the call, McConnell revealed that the two hadn’t spoken since Biden took office in January.

“He called me about it yesterday,” McConnell said on Wednesday.

But McConnell has already signaled that he’s likely not to support the bill, as he made that clear at a recent event in Kentucky where he labeled the bill as nothing more than a political “Trojan horse.”

“This is not going to be apparently an infrastructure package. It’s like a Trojan horse. So it’s called infrastructure, but inside the Trojan horse is going to be more borrowed money and massive tax increases,” McConnell said at the event.

The bill, which is the first phase of Biden’s “Build Back Better” initiative, will include a massive tax hike — one that’s been called one of the largest in U.S. history if it’s passed — in order to pay for everything included in the bill. Some of those taxes will come in the form of higher corporate taxes and higher taxes on capital gains, among other ideas to tax America into the ground.

McConnell, who has been at odds with the Trump-side of the Republican party as of late, said he won’t support a bill that includes deficit spending or massive tax hikes, no matter what benefits — if any — could result in his home state of Kentucky.

The Senate Republican leader added that Biden’s plan means “not only significantly more borrowing but raising taxes on the most productive parts of our economy.”

Democrats have already admitted that they’re not likely to receive much bipartisan support for such a monumentally expensive bill, which continues to raise questions on their intentions to possibly “nuke” the Senate filibuster rule in order to secure a much higher chance of passing Biden’s proposed legislation.

McConnell has vowed a “scorched-Earth” response if Democrats are foolish enough to end the filibuster. Hopefully, he sticks to his guns for once and follows through, if need be.
